Chapter 3 Blog Question

Question: There are times when family affairs disappoint you. On page 79 ‘Outside the Box’, there are four suggestions on how to handle disappointment. What do you think of each suggestion? If you do not have issues that are family related (include the wider family, adoptive family, guardian), consider other disappointments in your life with other people who are supposedly close to you.

Answer: ‘Take it easy on yourself, especially if you’re feeling down. Do something that makes you feel good about yourself.’ I agree with this suggestion. I think that taking it easy on oneself is important for recovering from the disappointments as taking it easy helps to relieve ourselves from the situation and think sharper.
‘No matter what the situation, try to find some sort of positive way to look at it.’ I think that this statement is very important indeed. If anyone were to look at things negatively at his/her current state, it would cause him/her to doubt more. Therefore, we should try to think positive of everything that comes by, as if we were to doubt or not, and the outcome is still the same, why should we doubt?
‘Know that everyone goes through disappointment, and the feelings that go along with it won’t last forever.’ This statement is equally important. If anyone with the mindset that will never change, the outcome cannot either. It is because we know there is still hope that we are able to get out of our disappointment.
‘Find a healthy way to express your emotions: Write in your journal, do something creative, go for a walk, talk to someone.’ This, I think, is a good way of getting rid of bottled up stress and negative thoughts and everyone, not just the disappointed, should do.
‘Try to keep things in perspective. One way to do this is to take the time to write down one thing everyday that you are thankful for. It can be something as big as an important person in your life to something as small as the Oreo cookie you had for dessert.’ Doing this helps me to know all the good things that people have done for me and this helps me to look on the bright side instead on the dark side of life.
