Chapter 4(Losing It) Jake Wee: Blog Question

Question for Blogging

What can you learn or take away from each of the eight chapters? Please consider information from the spotlight articles associated with the corresponding chapters.

To help you answer the above question, you could:

- pick out one or more things you think is important to help you be a better person or friend and elaborate on it.

- consider if there was anything to help you cope with losing someone/some people through death, through geographical distance, etc. Say why it is helpful.

This chapter tells me about how to handle the loss of a family member or someone that you really love. Losing someone that you really love comes naturally in life. There will come a time when that person is old and has not long to live or is diagnosed with an incurable disease, and this chapter teaches us how to handle and overcome this grief that we would have. Taking an example from chapter 1, Dr Elizabeth Kübler-Ross tells us the five stages of grief and I think that it is important for us to reach the last stage, which is acceptance. Whether you like it or not, that person is already gone, and there is no way that one could bring back the dead. For one to reach that stage right after the person's death, that person has to be mentally strong and must be able to hold on tightly but let go easily of that person. It is also important that when you feel sad about losing a closed friend or family member, you must pour out your feelings and not keep it inside, as this might lead to emotional problems and according to scientists, it might also lead to physical problems. It is also important to be able to allow yourself to slowly accept reality and face the truth. In your heart, honor the person that has passed and keep photos or mementos that remind you of the good times with the person and the things that person has done to you and how he or she has made an impact on your life.

  1. You have answered the blog question honestly and you did take some things away from the chapter. However, I was hoping for a more systematic answer to the blog question. I asked what you learnt from individual chapters so I had expected you to tell me what you learnt from articles 1, article 2, article 3 and so forth. You could give a general 'takeaway' as an introduction but give more specific 'takeaways' from individual articles. Then conclude with a paragraph to sum it all up.
