Blog Question Chapter 4 (Jonathan 12)

What can you learn or take away from each of the eight articles? Please consider information from the spotlight articles associated with the corresponding chapters.

To help you answer the above question, you could:

- pick out one or more things you think is important to help you be a better person or friend and elaborate on it.

- consider if there was anything to help you cope with losing someone/some people through death, through geographical distance, etc. Say why it is helpful

The first article, ‘No day but today’, has taught me about being positive and optimistic. When the author’s father was going to die, she found it very disturbing and painful, while her father was always joking and making the best of the remainder of his life. I find that we can relate this to our own lives, like when someone who we love is going through a hard time or when we are about to lose that person, we must remember to remain positive. After all, sometimes that person that is having a hard time is also trying his or her best to be happy, and we should be happy too we are not the ones suffering. It may be hard but I am sure that the person suffering cares for us too and would not want us to be sad or disturbed. The second article can be linked to this too. It is about the author losing her dad but as time goes by, she forgave him. Sometimes when we lose someone we might blame them for us having a hard time or just for leaving us, especially when we did not have a nice relationship between us. But when we realise we love them and they loved us we just let forgiveness in our hearts, and this is really good as forgiveness is better than having hatred in your heart. This is what the article taught me, to forgive rather than hate. The third article taught me about gratefulness, especially when she had a donor, I realised that we need to grateful that there are good people out there somewhere who just want to help others. I am going to be honest, the fourth article taught me nothing. It was about a guy feeling guilty about an accident which nearly cost his friend’s life but we already know that feeling guilty is not a great feeling and also sometimes things happen without a reason, which sometimes are just freak accidents. The articles ‘Chain reaction’,‘The day an angel was made’ and ‘My star girl’ are similar to ‘Broken fence’ but at least we can learn that these people can get over the incidents. In the stories the authors lost someone who they loved and sometimes they feel guilty because in their point of view, they could have helped that person. These are very real events that could happen to anyone of us, and so we need to learn from these authors who can get over these incidents. Of course sometimes we might still feel bad, guilty or sad but we must remember that the person would not want us to feel bad, especially someone who loved us. The last article, ‘An unforgettable storm’ taught me that we need to cherish our life as such ‘freak of natures’ like a hurricane can take away everything or everyone that we love. As said in the article, tomorrow is not a promise, and so we need to be thankful and show our gratitude whenever we can, or suddenly we might not be able to.

Organization: You might want to consider breaking up this answer into paragraphs.
